Controller
I am responsible for the data processed on this site: Özgür Bulut Akanay. For any question or request about privacy, write to ozgurakanay@gmail.com.
When you open the site
The site runs on servers of Vercel Inc. (USA). When you open a page, your browser sends Vercel your IP address, the address you opened, the time and your browser details. Vercel keeps these in short-lived logs to run the site and protect it from attacks.
The fonts and all the code on the page come from the same server; opening a page sends no request to another server such as Google Fonts.
Visit statistics
I use PostHog to see which pages get read, where visitors come from, and which links, buttons and forms get clicked. PostHog is run by PostHog Inc. (USA); this site's data is processed and stored on PostHog's servers in the EU region. Pages send the statistics to this site's own address, and Vercel passes them on to PostHog from there.
PostHog sets no cookies and stores nothing in your browser. To count visits within the same day, PostHog's server computes a hash; the hash resets every day, so when you come back the next day you count as a new visitor. Your IP address is not stored, and no location is derived from it. No person profiles are made; session recording, heatmaps and automatic click capture are off.
What goes to PostHog:
- the address and title of the page you open; of the parameters in the address, only campaign tags (
utm_) and the Kütüphane search, label and sort stay, and the personal code in newsletter links is removed - if you came from another site, that site's address and path, without parameters such as what you searched for there
- the links and buttons you click, the steps you take in the newsletter form (not your email address), what you search for in the Kütüphane, how far you scroll and how long you stay on a page
- your browser, operating system, device type, screen size, and language and time zone settings
Search terms and campaign tags that look like an email address or a phone number are replaced with "[redacted]" before they are sent.
If you don't want statistics sent: . When you do, a marker is written to your browser's local storage and no more statistics are sent from this browser; the same button turns them back on.
Google Analytics, until 30 October 2026
From 10 August 2026 to 30 October 2026 this site used Google Analytics 4. Google set cookies whose names start with _ga in visitors' browsers; the pages opened, the links and buttons clicked, the time spent on the site, device and browser details, and a city-level location derived from the IP address went to Google. Google Ireland Limited processes the data; it may be transferred to Google LLC in the USA.
The data from that period stays in my Google Analytics account. I moved its daily totals (counts of pages, sources and events, not tied to any single visitor) to PostHog. When you open the site again, any _ga cookies left in your browser are deleted.
Newsletter
When you join the newsletter, I store your email address and send you a welcome email. I use the address only to send the newsletter; I share it with no one and sell it to no one.
The list is kept at Resend, Inc. (USA), which also sends the emails. Open and click tracking is off. Links to the site in the emails carry tags starting with utm_ so I can see visits that came from the newsletter; they appear in the visit statistics.
To protect the form from abuse, your IP address is held in the server's memory for a few minutes and never written anywhere. I also check through DNS that the domain of your address can receive email.
Every email has a one-click link to leave. When you leave, your address is marked as unsubscribed so that no more email reaches you. Write to me if you want it deleted entirely.
Email and calls
If you email me, your message and address stay in Gmail (Google), and I use them only to reply.
The calendar link for booking a call goes to Google Calendar. The name and email address you enter there stay with Google and reach me as the booking.
What stays in your browser
Your light or dark theme choice and, if you turned statistics off, the marker for that are kept in your browser's local storage and are never sent to the server. They are there to show the site the way you asked and to keep to your choice.
Links to other sites
The site links to the App Store, YouTube, GitHub and other sites. None of them is embedded in the page; you reach them only by clicking, and from there that site's privacy policy applies.
Your rights
You have the right to ask what data I hold about you, and to have it corrected, deleted or restricted, to object to its processing and to receive a copy (GDPR Art. 15 to 21). You can withdraw any consent at any time; processing before the withdrawal stays lawful. For all of this, write to ozgurakanay@gmail.com.
You can also complain to a data protection authority: the one where you live, or the Bavarian authority responsible for me, the Bayerisches Landesamt für Datenschutzaufsicht (BayLDA).
